Project Description

Luton Town Hall recently underwent an auditorium seating refurbishment by building contractors Martin Rix Building Services.

CPS Seating LTD was invited to create bespoke seating with a fixed tip up that would complement the fixed benches already installed whilst making it accessible for wheelchair users.

The Novus chair was chosen as it best fitted the brief and the aesthetic of the room. The Novus features tip-up seat base, 3-part backrest and tip-up arm rest. The seat’s end panels were added to to complete the chair, which were upholstered in PU vinyl.

The town hall’s council chamber is semi-circular in shape. Due to this, CPS’s designer Roger McCreadie was despatched to the town hall with a Total Station. This highly sensitive piece of surveying ingenuity was used to produce an As Built survey of the room which could subsequently be downloaded into the CAD software. This enabled the room to be drawn up and seating to be plotted in the space.

The 15 required auditorium seats were then manufactured and pre-assembled for despatch to the town hall. As the site was in the town centre, the seats were fully built before being despatched to reduce the time spent unloading.

The bespoke seating installation was swift with no waste produced. All packaging material was taken away by CPS to be re-used.
