Newcastle University Collaborative Bench Seating

We have just completed a lecture theatre seating installation at the newly opened Frederick Douglass Centre at Newcastle University. CPS Manufacturing worked with Sheppard Robson Architects LLP and Newcastle University to design, manufacture and install collaborative bench seating into a 200 seater lecture theatre.

The lecture theatre is a key part of the new teaching methods at the University for the School of Computing and the Newcastle University Business School. Our collaborative bench seating can be used for flipped lectures or collaborative learning where the students are the focus instead of the lecturers.

The seats were made with in a variety of pastel colours including blue, green and purple. The flipped lecture theatre seats were installed with fixed desks featuring power outputs.

Named after anti-slavery campaigner Frederick Douglass who stayed in Newcastle in 1846, the new building is part of Newcastle Helix which is a community of sustainable urban developments in the centre of the city.
