Project Description
Working in true collaboration with Sir Robert McAlpine (IHP), Vinci, and P+HS Architects, CPS Seating delivered a complete turnkey training suite solution at North Tyneside General Hospital. CPS provided the full package, incorporating seating, desks, integrated power, tiering, floor access hatches, and carpeting.
The training suite included collaborative bench seating upholstered in Panaz fabrics from the Highland and Harvard ranges, with waterfall desks finished in Formica Fundamentals laminate. Pulling on the experience of our sister company Zoeftig’s airport seating product, we installed a fully integrated power system including cable ducting and easily replaceable sockets, supported by a comprehensive cable management solution.
A primary engineering challenge involved spanning complex mechanical ductwork located beneath the installation zone. To address this, our engineering team designed and fabricated a bespoke tiered support structure capable of bridging multiple duct runs with varying heights and widths. This was achieved by leveraging in-house structural expertise and precision manufacturing techniques. The solution was developed in strict accordance with fire safety regulations, while maintaining a uniform rise per row and accommodating the spatial constraints imposed by the low ceiling height.
Further complexity arose from the bespoke configuration of the collaborative seating system. Maximizing seating capacity within a restricted 76m² footprint was critical to project success, necessitating meticulous spatial planning and load distribution analysis. The works were executed within a live hospital environment under an accelerated programme, underscoring CPS’s capability to deliver safely, accurately and within tight scheduling tolerances.
Integrated floor access hatches were included to future-proof the suite, while Tarkett Essence carpet tiles completed the installation with a coordinated finish.
The calming four-colourway fabric palette created a welcoming and engaging environment, perfectly suited to learning and teaching. Combined with integrated power, bespoke tiering, and a true turnkey finish, the training suite provides a future-ready space that supports modern education. This project showcased CPS’s technical expertise and ability to deliver the full package, from design through to completion, breathing new life into existing facilities and creating environments that inspire.
