University Of Birmingham Retractable Seating

The University of Birmingham’s Avon Room was completely refurbished. As part of the refurbishment, the university contacted CPS Seating LTD regarding adding retractable seating to provide extra seating for lectures and events. This was the first retractable seating system installed in the UK.

CPS Seating LTD worked with our retractable seating partner Jezet Seating to design, manufacture and install 155 retractable seats. Each of the seats is installed with individual writing surfaces which can be used during study time or lectures. Red fabric was chosen for the seats. The retractable seating included two sets of steps to the sides of the seats, which fold away electronically with the seating.

The Avon room’s refurbishment meant the room was transformed into a bright, modern and first class lecture theatre to enhance the learning experience at the university.

Universities tend to have a lack of storage space and generally need to use rooms more flexibly, therefore retractable lecture theatre seating is ideal for them to make the best use of space available.
