Project Description
CPS Seating LTD has designed, manufactured and installed a new bench seating system to the revamped lecture theatre at the London Science Museum.
The newly-named Hans Rausing Lecture Theatre, designed by award-winning practice Dow Jones Architects, is now a comfortable and modern environment which elegantly highlights the original architecture of the space.
The revitalisation of the museum’s lecture theatre space was made possible by a generous donation from The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust and is dedicated to Hans Kristian Rausing’s father, Professor Hans Rausing, in celebration of his 90th birthday this year.
This particular bench seating design at the science museum features a bespoke front row with 4 individual tip-up seats which are designed for wheelchair users. The 144 capacity lecture theatre is now being used extensively for programmed lectures, family shows and a series of newly created adult events and workshops.
Bench seating is where CPS started back in 1966 and is a product that is still commonly requested in many prestigious venues to this day. Our bench seating provides a high level of comfort for long performances and each system is manufactured to stand the test of time.
CPS bench seating was also specified for the Frozen attraction at Hong Kong Disneyland in 2015 and is a very popular choice of seating in many schools, colleges, universities and theatres around the world.
